I have just turned 50 and life has never been this good. I am back to running, which was not possible for over 5 years due to knee problems. Thanks to the Chi Running books and DVD I learned that the impact on my body was too much. But there is another thing that Chi Running has given me which is even bigger to me.

I am a student of the Japanese martial art called Aikido. Ki is the same as Chi in Chi Running! Aikido in itself has given me a lot. I have learned how to focus and how to center and that has been part of my live for over twenty years now. But it was not until I used Chi Walking during a summer break where I walked in the mountains that I fully understood what centering is all about. The key to this for me was the body sensing exercise. While walking in the mountains, I felt tired and was not enjoying the ride at all. Then, I started working on the form focuses, and when I started doing the body sensing exercise all of a sudden I felt completely centered and in the "here and now".

I was not tired any more, I was enjoying the birds that were singing and I could see the many colors that nature brings. I started using the exercise more and more, and it has even taken me to change the subject of my Ph.D. research. I have now created a new method called A.I. ki do, which is a combination of Aikido and Appreciative Inquiry (A.I.). In the method, I teach people how to find their source of power and how to center. This leads to better performance, better communication, better co-creation and so on.

The Chi Running technique has given me back my life! I am running every morning for about 45 minutes and feel energized when I come home to work. I have lost 15 kilo’s of extra weight that I have been carrying around for the last few years. I am now able to focus instantly and constantly because of the form focuses I do while I am running. Chi Running has changed my life for the best. I am very grateful for this beautiful ‘tool’.

Kind regards,
José Otte

Megan S. tested the Beta version of our upcoming ChiRunning App, set to release May 2013. Here are her thoughts:

"I consider myself to be a relative newbie to Chi Running. This app is amazing for all experience levels of Chi Running. It is FULL of information with helpful Chi Running lessons and stretches. Even more impressive to me is the all inclusive nature of the app. During the runs you have your metronome and Danny reminding you of the Chi focuses you're working on. Look no further if you want to know your distance, time, pace, elevation gain, calories burned. LOVE it!"

"Jeff Rosenblum is an amazing, amazing trainer! He is totally engaged with each and every student and offers positive reinforcement and help for improvement. He is always available for in-person questions during class or via phone or e-mail after class. In addition, he knows every muscle and nerve in the body and what may be causing pain when walking and how to correct it.

His Chi Walking class is designed for anyone – from people who have not exercised in a long time to those who want to improve their posture, strengthen crucial core muscles (i.e. your “core”), relax tight and overused muscles that may be causing pain, and gain cardio and aerobic conditioning.

Prior to Jeff’s Chi Walking class, I thought the only way to stand up straight was to "throw one’s shoulders back”. In the very first class I quickly learned how to align my body and engage my core, and by doing so was standing straighter than I have stood in a very long time.

I have never felt better than after his class; I have increased energy for the day.

I highly recommend Jeff and his Chi Walking class for everyone."

I really want to thank Danny for what I learned in the NYC Chi Running 2 workshop. I started thinking about changing my running form 3 years ago. I had been a runner as a teen, but due to various strains and pains decided I could no longer run. Then my son started showing a talent in the sport (the same one who is acting in the show--he's also a varsity XC and mid-distance track runner) and I was inspired to connect with him as a runner. At that time I struggled to run 3 miles at 10+ minutes/mile.

After taking Danny's level 1 workshop and reading Born to Run I was a convert to Chi running with minimalist shoes--my distance grew and time went down. Last year I really began to focus on "being a runner" again--started running very regularly, increasing distance, running faster, and took Chi Running 2, which gave me some important pointers about my form and technique. That was October. On Thanksgiving Day I participated in a five mile Turkey Trot--I did it for fun with no expectation or idea of how I was doing, and I came in 3rd in my age group!

In addition to making me feel great about myself (and about turning 50!), getting back to running has also helped me achieve my original goal of connecting to my son through running. He's now about to break a 4:30 mile, so we can never run together (at least not past the end of the driveway), but we talk about running all the time and share stories and training tips. I think it's really helped him feel supported throughout his own journey to elite running, and for that connection I am the most grateful.

	Thanks again,

	Linda Cowen

During the past few years, my wife and I have become avid Chi Walkers – it’s been an invaluable and powerful journey. It all began a few years ago, when we read an article in our local newspaper challenging people to walk a marathon. My wife thought that would be fun, I thought she was crazy.

We began training shortly after that. Our goal was to walk the Portland, Oregon marathon and finish with a 15 min/mile pace. We met our goal, with considerable effort and discomfort, and concluded that that was about as fast as we would ever walk. But we caught the marathon bug and decided to do another. We walked our second marathon in Maui, Hawaii, but we were in a lot of pain by the end. At this point, we had not yet heard of Chi Walking but, lucky for us, that lacking was soon to end.

After reading the Chi Walking book and watching the DVD, we enlisted the help of Eugene’s Certified Chi Walking Instructor, Keith McConnell, to fine tune our technique and take full advantage of this pioneering approach to walking. In no time we were Chi Walking with ease, efficiency and steadily increasing speed. Over subsequent months, we completed several more marathons (always finishing hand in hand) and cut over an hour off our initial marathon time – down to five and a half hours - who would have thought we “older types” could ever walk that smoothly and that quickly! Thank you, Keith!

Also, on those rare occasions when we’ve had physical discomfort, e.g., my right knee was bothering me on a walk recently, all it has taken to handle it is to do a body scan and then re-focus to good Chi Walking form. Voila, soreness gone! All in all, Chi Walking has become our science and our art – a magical way to walk – leading to a more mindful and healthy way to live. We recommend it to everyone whether or not they ever want to walk a marathon – Chi Walking works!

After running for 20+ years, I had to give it up, 15 years ago [in my mid 40s] due to knee pain.
Found and consumed your book [digital & audio] and your DVD. I habitually apply your research/knowledge to my barefoot running and every day life journey. At 60 years of age, my life and running experiences are peaceful, pain free and effortless! Each important [life] transition I've made began as research and experimentation. Theories such as ChiRunning, barefoot running and raw nutrition stick, because, experimentation proves their efficacy. I began my [100%] raw food journey 7 years ago, with great results. I'm eager to see how, mindful and proper form running will, impact the next 7 years!

Thank you for learning and sharing!

	Hi Chris,

I just wanted to thank you for holding such a great class. The book can only take you so far without some coaching.
Since your class I have run a 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving and two half marathons two consective weekends in a row.
I ran the Vegas Rock n Roll half marathon on Sunday evening December 4 and then with only 5 days of rest of I was able to run the Walnut Creek 1st annual half marathon on the morning of December 10th.
For the Vegas run I beat my PR by three minutes having finished the race in 2 hours 7 minutes.
For the Walnut Creek run I again beat my PR by 5 minutes having finished the race in 2 hours 2 minutes.

Of note, I was not able to train well the 3 weeks prior to the the Vegas run having to deal with some work issues, a death in the family, and getting sick. I was only able to run 3 or 4 times during those 3 weeks.
Because my endurance was not quite as good as I wanted it to, I had to walk 3 or 4 times during each race. Yet I was able to beat my Personal Best time both times. After each marathon I only required minimal recovery time.

Running back to back half marathons, beating my PT (twice), and requiring minimal recovery, I owe primarily to Chi Running.

I know I still have some work to do to improve my technique but I feel like I am well on my well.

Thank you again! Chi Running rocks!!!

Happy Holidays!

Ed

ChiWalking is a walking technique that places much less stress than conventional walking on the joints and supporting structures in the legs and back. I have recommended the technique to many patients who suffer from arthritis in the legs and/or back, but would like to continue to walk regularly for exercise. Using ChiWalking, my arthritis patients are able to walk farther, more frequently, and with less discomfort, than they were able to previously. In turn, their ability to do more exercise improves the strength in the legs and back, and helps retard further progression of the arthritis.

One patient with severe, advanced bilateral knee osteoarthritis recently incorporated the ChiWalking technique not only for exercise walking, but for all his walking all day, every day. His knee pain has improved well beyond what we ever expected or hoped for, and at least for now, he has avoided the need for knee replacement surgery. He sends his heartfelt thanks to Danny Dreyer!
As a national class runner, trained by some of the nation’s top coaches, I doubted Danny would have much to offer that I didn’t already know. Fortunately for my teams, as well as my own running, I kept an open mind. ChiRunning not only helped my level 1, 2 and 3 runners but it improved my running as well! His running technique improves performance at all levels and most importantly prevents injuries.
