I am thirteen days (Saturday, April 13, 2013) away from my first half-marathon and I am having doubts about finishing. My long runs had been slow but steadily increasing in length with no extraordinary difficulty. I had two in at a bit over 11 miles.
Last Sunday I headed out on what should have been twelve miles and for the first time actually called my wife to come pick me up. My hips were bothering me and I had to walk until she picked me up at 7.42 miles. I think I can explain this by having ran a 5K and setting a personal best pace the day before.
Should taper down now? I wanted to do a 13-mile run before the actual race, but now am not sure. Today I ran/walked 10.31 mile at a 14:14 min./mile pace. At that pace, the awards ceremony will have started before I finish.
Maybe some stories of other first half’s will encourage me.
If interested, I could share my RunKeeper profile or Google Docs spreadsheet.
