I am new to Chi Running and new to running in general. In fact, it is because of the promise of “effortless, injury-free running” which lured me into buying the book and DVD.
I have been through the course materials and am practicing the concepts about 2-3 times per week. I also do Max Workouts (resistance training) 3 times / week. My legs, core, and cardio system are strong for a 51 yrs old man.
The problem I am having is that after just a few minutes of running (more like jogging - sometimes on treadmill and other times on sidewalks), I start to get ankle pain and tightness in my lower legs. I am feeling some pain in my shins afterward as well. Even though I concentrate on relaxing my legs, keeping my column straight and core engaged, leaning in, right cadence, etc, I can’t seem to run for more than 2-3 minutes at a time due to my leg issues.
Since I am a true newbie to running I am sure that some of this is due to my technique, which should improve with practice. I am considering a workshop but is there something else I can do/try in the meantime?
I am afraid that if this does not improve soon my discouragement may lead to abandonment of running.
I am considering a 5k on November 24th but that goal is now in jeopardy due to my lack of progress.
Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!!!
