Hi Mark - We are not docs, so I would caution you to get it checked out if the pain is sharp or continues. That said, make sure you are not tying your shoe laces too tight. You can actually bruise that area by clamping it down. But again, if it hurts all the time and especially if you feel a hot spot, get it looked at. I’m thinking it could be a fracture or a stress response.
Toeing off (too hard) or landing/loading on your forefoot can cause those issues. I would probably refrain from running til you get it figured out. Then review the heel lift section in the book and DVD to learn how to relax your ankles and lower legs. And make sure you take a peek at the lean section - being too vertical can lead to having to toe off.
